Prevention- McGruff Tough Enough?

I’ve been out of the loop for years now but apparently the National Crime Prevention Council still uses McGruff as their youth-directed mascot. The animated, trench coat wearing canine that warned me about the dangers of drugs when I was in 2nd grade is now warning of the dangers of cyber-bullying. Generally “cyber-bullying” is considered the same as “online harassment” except all parties involved are minors. The NCPC campaign in conjunction with the National Ad Council is well intended and well produced- however the demographic most likely to cyber-bully are beyond the age of associating with animated dogs asking them to “take a bite out of crime”. Still it’s a great effort and the use of the animated mascot is clearly lessened compared to some of their other campaigns. Their official website offers animated website banners, audio stories, and even a video for parents and educators to use.

Welcome to BostonBigots.com -An Expose

No no, this isn’t a safe-harbor for bigotry, rather its an expose of public displays of bigotry in our supposedly tolerant city and what you can do to combat these and deal with those that aren’t so public.

A confession: I wasn’t planning on launching the site for another month at least but a recent turn in events has convinced me to get a new placeholder in now. A lot of the work here is going on under the hood- check back in a couple weeks for important updates!
